Today it mostly appears in southern Iberia, Galicia, southern Italy, and parts of North Africa. It is very common amongst the peasantry of southeastern Spain, where it may be the dominant type. It can rarely be found in the Balkans, Anatolia, France, and very rarely on the British Isles. A similar type may be found in Dordogne. European colonists spread this type into the Americas. In Latin American countries, it is often mixed with indigenous or African types.
| traits = Fair to light brown skin. straight or wavy, brown to black hair. Dark, rarely light eyes. Short to medium height, mesoskelic, mesomorph to endomorph. Dolicho-mesocephalic, chamaecranic. Nose is mildly leptorrhine to mesorrhine, often concave and somewhat large. Face is broad and short, showing robust features, such as a strong and pronounced jaw. Sometimes mild prognathy. Body hair usually heavy. Sometimes shows pseudo-Mongoloid eyes like in Berberid. If the Alpinid element is predominant, it may show softer facial features and a more rounded face.
