Description

In Cuba, “mulato” does not constitute a discrete genetic cluster. While the mean ancestry skews European, there is substantial overlap across White- and Black-identified populations. [1]

Physical Traits

Face: Facial breadth tends toward a medium width. The midface is notably long, anchored by significant cheekbone flare that exceeds the width of the jaw, creating a sharp, V-shaped lower face that persists even among men. Proportions: The interpupillary distance is approximately 46% of facial width. The sample also shows a reduced mouth-to–nose width ratio. Pigmentation: Skin tone remains the most variable metric, spanning from light-intermediate to deep brown. This high variance is clear physical evidence of a heterogeneous population. Hair: Texture spans the full morphological range—from deep waves to tight coils—with straight hair appearing as a minority pattern. [2]
